*Where Can This Discovery Bible Study Be Used?*

This flexible DBS format can be used effectively in the following settings:

  1. Personal Study (Individual Use)
    • When you have no group or just want to deepen your own relationship with God.
    • Use a notebook or journal to write down your thoughts in response to each question.
    • Ask the Holy Spirit to speak clearly as you reflect and commit to obey.
  2. One-on-One Discipleship
    • Meet with a friend, spouse, colleague, or fellow believer.
    • Read the text together and walk through each question in conversation.
  3. Small Group / Home Fellowship
    • Perfect for 3–12 people gathering weekly in homes, churches, or communities.
    • Everyone participates. No one teaches — the Holy Spirit leads through discovery.
  4. Youth Groups / Bible Clubs
    • Especially great for teenagers and young adults. Encourages engagement and obedience-based discipleship.
  5. Family Devotions
    • Use during morning or evening family altar times. Let everyone, including children, contribute.
  6. Outreach / Evangelism Follow-up
    • For seekers or new believers, this method allows them to engage the Bible without pressure or theological jargon.
  7. Church Planting / Discipleship Movements (DMM/CPM)
    • A foundational tool in house churches and simple church settings worldwide.

*Story: “The Vineyard Start-Up”*

Three young entrepreneurs — Tayo, Mei, and Carlos — wanted to launch a vineyard that produced the finest grapes in their region. They studied climates, soil quality, pruning techniques, and irrigation systems. Their goal was simple: maximum fruit with minimal waste.

They each planted on separate plots.

  • Tayo stayed connected to a seasoned vintner who mentored him daily.
  • Mei tried using shortcuts, reducing watering schedules and pruning less to “save time.”
  • Carlos used synthetic nutrients to speed up growth but ignored warnings about root damage.

One year later, only Tayo’s vineyard bore fruit — healthy, rich, and abundant. The others saw wilted vines, poor fruit, and insect infestations. When asked the secret, Tayo said:

“I followed the process. I stayed connected to someone who knew more than I did. I didn’t try to speed things up or cut corners. The vine did the work — I just stayed faithful.”

A local agriculture reporter asked him what advice he’d give new farmers. Tayo smiled and quoted something he once heard:

“If you stay connected to the vine, you’ll always bear fruit. But apart from it… you’ll burn out trying.”

✨ *Group Interaction Questions (Engagement Time)*

  1. What are you thankful to God for today or this past week?
    (Ask everyone to speak up)
  2. What are the challenges you faced this week?
    (Ask everyone to speak up)
  3. How can we help?
(Group members should suggest ways to help meet the needs or offer advice if possible)

*Bible Reading: John 15:1–17*

(Read aloud slowly and clearly.)

️ *Paraphrase the Passage*

  1. Without looking at the Bible again, in your own words, what is this passage communicating?
(Ask each person to share. If something is added that’s not in the passage, ask kindly: “Can you show us where that is in the text?” Encourage staying focused on scripture.)

*Discovery Questions (Go Deep)*

  1. What does this passage say about the Father, Jesus the Son, the Holy Spirit, and about man (us)?
    (Everyone should speak up.)
  2. Are there any sins to confess or behaviors to avoid mentioned in this passage?
    (Everyone should speak up.)
  3. Are there promises to claim, praises to give, or prayers to pray from this passage?
    (Everyone should speak up.)
  4. Are there examples to follow or avoid?
    (Everyone should speak up.)
  5. Are there any commandments to obey from this passage?
    (Everyone should speak up.)
  6. What specific action or step will you take this week based on what you’ve learned?
(Each person should state a commitment out loud — obey what they learned.)
  7. Who will you share today’s learning with this week?
(Everyone should mention at least 1 person. This helps multiply the Word. Next meeting, ask how the sharing went.)

*Closing Prayer Time*

  1. Prayer Requests and Group Intercession
  • Each person shares one area of personal or group prayer need.
  • Write them down or remember them.
  • End with a united prayer, committing all needs and obedience steps to God.
