Speech delivered on Papua New Guinea day of National Repentance – 26th of August 2022 - The Need for Triple R – Reconciliation, Restitution and Repentance for the people of Papua New Guinea

Speech delivered on Papua New Guinea day of National Repentance – 26th of August 2022  – The Need for Triple R – Reconciliation, Restitution and Repentance for the people of Papua New Guinea – Brothers and Sisters in Christ, it gives me great pleasure to speak to you, the great people of Papua New Guinea and to congratulate you for setting aside a day, like no other day to come before the Lord, the creator of the heaven and earth in repentance.

I like to point out here that You are the only country in the whole wide world that have set aside this day in your national calendar as a holy day to come before your creator in repentance. I am grateful to be offered the opportunity to address you.

I want to appreciate the coordinators of the National day of repentance namely – K.A.A PNG and Beyond in partnership with BOC, PNGCC, EVANGELICAL ALLIANCE AND DEPT of COMM, Development and Religion.

I want to appreciate Pastor Jack Edwards of Shema Evangelism Ministry who has facilitated the speech from remote location where I am, about 15 thousand kilometers away from your Nation. He has maintained contact with me, interfacing with the ICA in facilitating the entry visa, using all available channels for me to participate in this year’s Annual day of Repentance. I am grateful.

The response from the immigration came very late. As of yesterday, we were still exchanging documents. I hope to make it on or before the 16th of September 2022 when you will be celebrating the 47th year of independence – God willing!

I speak today to you  Papua New Guineans comprising 9.3 million people, the most culturally diverse country on earth with  over 800 languages and people groups spread across 102 cities in 21 provinces namely: Central, Eastern Highlands, East New Britain, West New Britain, East Sepik, and West Sepik, Enga, Gulf, Hela, Jiwaka, Madang, Manus, Milne Bay, Morobe, New Ireland, Oro, Simbu, Southern, and Western Highlands, as well as Port Moresby and Autonomous Region of Bougainville.

The subject of repentance is exemplified through all scripture from Prophet Daniel, Jeremiah, Ezra, Nehemiah, Jonah, Joel, Samuel and a host of others that time will not permit me to highlight them in this short talk.

But for today, I would like to speak on The Need for Triple R – Reconciliation, Restitution and Repentance for the people of Papua New Guinea

BEFORE REPENTANCE

If God is calling for repentance of which your leaders have rightly identified, then He will tell you how to go about repentance that He is seeking from you that will be acceptable to Him for the genuine turnaround your nation seeks in righteousness and holiness unto Him.

I need to point out firstly that No repentance holds any water except it is coming from our innermost being.. our core! – It has to come from deep within our heart, where our spirit that is joined to His Spirit is.

The Lord, the great king and ruler of the entire realm of existence – visible and invisible realm, will not listen to any of our repentance until we have done the first R. What is the first R. The first R is

RECONCILIATION

Reconciliation is the restoration of friendly relations

This R is called Reconciliation with our brothers and sisters. whoever they may be – Good, bad and ugly –

We can have scriptural backing for these as follows:

Ministry of reconciliation
Once our relationship with God has been restored, we are called into his service:

2 Corinthians 5:11-21
Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
11 Therefore, being conscious of fearing the Lord with respect and reverence, we seek to win people over [to persuade them]. But what sort of persons we are is plainly recognized and thoroughly understood by God, and I hope that it is plainly recognized and thoroughly understood also by your consciences (your inborn discernment).

12 We are not commending ourselves to you again, but we are providing you with an occasion and incentive to be [rightfully] proud of us, so that you may have a reply for those who pride themselves on surface appearances [on the virtues they only appear to have], although their heart is devoid of them.

13 For if we are beside ourselves [mad, as some say], it is for God and concerns Him; if we are in our right mind, it is for your benefit,

14 For the love of Christ controls and urges and impels us, because we are of the opinion and conviction that [if] One died for all, then all died;

15 And He died for all, so that all those who live might live no longer to and for themselves, but to and for Him Who died and was raised again for their sake.

16 Consequently, from now on we estimate and regard no one from a [purely] human point of view [in terms of natural standards of value]. [No] even though we once did estimate Christ from a human viewpoint and as a man, yet now [we have such knowledge of Him that] we know Him no longer [in terms of the flesh].

17 Therefore if any person is [ingrafted] in Christ (the Messiah) he is a new creation (a new creature altogether); the old [previous moral and spiritual condition] has passed away. Behold, the fresh and new has come!

18 But all things are from God, Who through Jesus Christ reconciled us to Himself [received us into favor, brought us into harmony with Himself] and gave to us the ministry of reconciliation [that by word and deed we might aim to bring others into harmony with Him].

19 It was God [personally present] in Christ, reconciling and restoring the world to favor with Himself, not counting up and holding against [men] their trespasses [but cancelling them], and committing to us the message of reconciliation (of the restoration to favor).

20 So we are Christ’s ambassadors, God making His appeal as it were through us. We [as Christ’s personal representatives] beg you for His sake to lay hold of the divine favor [now offered you] and be reconciled to God.

21 For our sake He made Christ [virtually] to be sin Who knew no sin, so that in and through Him we might become [[]endued with, viewed as being in, and examples of] the righteousness of God [what we ought to be, approved and acceptable and in right relationship with Him, by His goodness].

Matthew 5:23-24
Therefore if you are presenting your offering at the altar, and there remember that your brother has something against you, leave your offering there before the altar and go; first be reconciled to your brother, and then come and present your offering.

Mark 11:25-26
Easy-to-Read Version
25 When you are praying and you remember that you are angry with another person about something, forgive that person. Forgive them so that your Father in heaven will also forgive your sins.” 26

Mark 12:31
Easy-to-Read Version
31 The second most important command is this: ‘Love your neighbor[a] the same as you love yourself.’[b] These two commands are the most important.”

Philemon 10-21
Amplified Bible, Classic Edition
10 I appeal to you for my [own spiritual] child, Onesimus [meaning profitable], whom I have begotten [in the faith] while a captive in these chains.

11 Once he was unprofitable to you, but now he is indeed profitable to you as well as to me.

12 I am sending him back to you in [a]his own person, [and it is like sending] my very heart.

13 I would have chosen to keep him with me, in order that he might minister to my needs in your stead during my imprisonment for the Gospel’s sake.

14 But it has been my wish to do nothing about it without first consulting you and getting your consent, in order that your benevolence might not seem to be the result of compulsion or of pressure but might be voluntary [on your part].

15 Perhaps it was for this reason that he was separated [from you] for a while, that you might have him back as yours forever,

16 Not as a slave any longer but as [something] more than a slave, as a brother [Christian], especially dear to me but how much more to you, both in the flesh [as a servant] and in the Lord [as a fellow believer].

17 If then you consider me a partner and a [b]comrade in fellowship, welcome and receive him as you would [welcome and receive] me.

18 And if he has done you any wrong in any way or owes anything [to you], charge that to my account.

19 I, Paul, write it with my own hand, I promise to repay it [in full]—and that is to say nothing [of the fact] that you owe me your very self!

20 Yes, brother, let me have some profit from you in the Lord. Cheer and refresh my heart in Christ.

21 I write to you [perfectly] confident of your obedient compliance, knowing that you will do even more than I ask.

2 Chronicles 7:14

King James Version

14 If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land.

On the subject of Triple R –, Following this first R which is reconciliation is the next R – called

RESTITUTION

Restitution is the restoration of something lost or stolen to its proper owner.

You can get this example with these scriptures:.

Luke 19:8-9
Zaccheus stopped and said to the Lord, “Behold, Lord, half of my possessions I will give to the poor, and if I have defrauded anyone of anything, I will give back four times as much.” And Jesus said to him, “Today salvation has come to this house, because he, too, is a son of Abraham.

Romans 13:8-10
Owe nothing to anyone except to love one another; for he who loves his neighbor has fulfilled the law. For this, “You shall not commit adultery, You shall not murder, You shall not steal, You shall not covet,” and if there is any other commandment, it is summed up in this saying, “You shall love your neighbor as yourself.” Love does no wrong to a neighbor; therefore love is the fulfillment of the law.

It is after Restitution that we can have Repentance

REPENTANCE

Repentance – is an action – the action of repenting; sincere regret or remorse.

“In what ways do we need to repent?” They are divided into two part – The Sins by Commission and omission. The sins of commission. or conscious sins needing repentance comprise of the 7 list as follows:

1) Repent from the worship of the spirit of mammon (Money), Gold and Silver and start worshipping me – Matthew 6:24; Luke 16:13 Exodus 32; Matthew 23:23; Mathew 6:33; Luke 16:14

2) Repent from Exploitation of my sheep – 2 Peter 2:3; Isaiah 61:8; Ezekiel 34:1-31; Matthew 23:14; Matthew 23:25

3) Repent from the sin of divination and sorcery in my house 1 Samuel 15:23; Leviticus 20:27; Galatians 5:19-20; Revelation 21:8; Isaiah 8:19-22

4) Repent from aiding and abetting criminals, by strengthening the arm of the wicked to do evil – Jeremiah 23:14; Isaiah 5:20-21: Matthew 23:13; Revelation 18:23; Revelation 22:19

5) Repent from causing my children to err by aiding and abetting divorce and all manner of evil all in the name of expansion of ministry Malachi 2:16; Matthew 19:8; Matthew 23:15; James 3:1; Luke 16:18

6) Repent from preach me happy messages and start preaching repentance and all that entails the kingdom of GOD – Matthew 23:15; Matthew 23:25; Mark 6:19: Revelation 22:19

7) Repent from building your empires and start building my kingdom in unity of spirit and faith Matthew 6:33 Matthew 28:19; Ephesians 4:1-3:13

After these are sins by omission which are 6 in number requiring repentance:

Sins by Omission Matthew 25:25-46

Sins by omission are as sinful as conscious sins. Some examples of sins by omission:

1) Not witnessing – Luke 12:8-9

2) Not praying – 1 Sam 12:23

3) Not to believe (Trust) in the Lord – 2 kings 7:2, John 16:9; Hebrew 3:17-19

4) Not to love the Lord – 1 Corinthians 16:22;13

5) Not practicing good deeds – Galatians 6:9; Matt 25:45

6) Not doing the work of the Lord with commitment – Jeremiah 46:10, Judge 5:23

Self  – Assessment in the secret place and not others Assessment

This is about self-assessment and repentance both for leaders and followership. It is not about finger pointing. it is about self-pointing because everyone will give account of their stewardship before God – Romans 14:10-12; Matthew 12:36. Let’s take care of these and others as we are led and let see how God will take care of our country. . Seek the kingdom which is already in you and all other things including Papua New Guinea, wealth riches, good government will be added to us.. Paraphrased Matthew 6:33

You and I can fast all we want, if we break the triple R protocol, we are just wasting our time and energy for nothing.

This triple R is both individualized and collective in nature…

It is called self-confrontation and group directed confrontation

The only time the scripture says the heavens rejoice is when a sinner repents genuinely.

Does not have to be a new believers… backsliding believers are also included in this number. ..

So, recall, TRIPLE R – Reconciliation, Restitution and Repentance – the go, hand in gloves and ensure you take action towards self-confrontation and group confrontation TODAY!

May the Lord hear you today, may His Holy Spirit convict hearts and minds, may the wind of revival blow through this land, the likes the world has never seen before that will bring about a revival that will spread to the whole continent of Oceania and to the furthermost part of the earth for His glory. May He hear you, may He forgive, May He heal, and restore the glory due PNG in Jesus name, amen – 2 Chronicles 7:14
