Lamentations,  Encouragement and Prayer for our nation in Distress - Nigeria - 5 observations and 4 action plans from the book of Lamentations

Pastor Tunji, thank you for inviting me to the Christian Motivation program on Peace FM Jos, PRTV – Plateau Radio Television, broadcasting to over 10 states in the Northern part of Nigeria, including neighbouring Cameroon and Niger Republic. I am not taking this invitation lightly. Thank you Again.

God’s Eagle Ministries is a ministry that propagate the message of unity in the body of Christ. You and I know that where there is no accurate equipping of the saints, no unity of faith, where there is no unity of faith, no perfection. One church organization cannot produce a perfect christian.. we need to engage with one another for proper equipping through the five fold ministry not just in your denomination but spread across because there is no denominations in heaven.

Read Ephesians 4 for details and Jesus prayer for unity in John 17 to give further depth.

Our Vision – We envision a UNITED Christian World through Christ Centered – Obedience based Disciple Making

Short Mission: We are One in Christ Jesus – We exist to Foster Unity of Spirit and Faith Amongst the Saints

Enlarged – All our resources in partnership with the five-fold ministry gifts in the body of Christ, will be geared towards Creating, Collating, and Circulating Christian Content (CCCCC) for the discipling and equipping of the saints till we all maintain the unity of SPIRIT through the bond of peace and attain the unity of FAITH and the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ in all nations of the earth as the Holy Spirit leads us.

Every year we fast and pray for unity, for repentance, for revival and proper disciple making effort in the body of Christ.

We worship with different churches, denominations, fellowship groups and encourage all to engage with one another. Our disunity is a stigma in our profession as Christians and hinders the work of God in our midst and delays speedy return of Christ!

We are starting a new program on PRTV called Christian Unity Time so standby and partner with what we do at God’s Eagle as you are led if you passionately passionate concerning the matter of unity and are willing to do something about. Details on areas of partnership are on our website at Otakada.org where we host over 2 million christian contents developed by us and other members of the five fold ministry for the equipping of the saints.

Whilst meditating on what to share, the Spirit led me to speak about lamentation. I was shocked.
Here is it – Lamentation,  Encouragement and Prayer for our nation in Distress – Nigeria – 5 observation and 4 action plans from the book of Lamentations

There are many reasons why you should talk about the need for Lamentation for Nigeria and indeed the World we live in today. Allow me to give you five observations.

1. Lamentations is the longest lament in the Bible.

Lament is a language that the church desperately needs to recover. Over a third of the Psalms are minor-key prayers that give voice to processing the pain of life. And yet, most Christians aren’t familiar with this biblical prayer language. Our congregational singing and our prayers are lament-lite.

The book of Lamentations demonstrates the purpose and power of turning to God, laying out our complaints, asking him for help, and choosing to trust. It not only serves as a memorial to the destruction of Jerusalem, but it also shows us how to pray when the dark clouds of suffering roll in. Everyone can relate to the level of suffering that has inundated our world today, especially Nigeria

2. Lamentations displays the severity of sin and the holiness of God

The book is a poetic memorial—a recounting and a warning. It rehearses the suffering and the grief connected to the sacking of the City of David, and it cautions us about what happens when human rebellion reaches a “red line.”

Lamentations is a deeply theological book. It identifies the depravity of God’s people as the cause of divine judgment. It elevates the right of a holy God to discipline his people—even using a pagan nation as his instrument. The book is shocking. It is sobering. And by preaching through Lamentations, people are reminded that sin is serious and God is holy.

3. Lamentations gives the church a voice in suffering.

The brokenness of sin has infected every aspect of our humanity. Creation still groans, and Lamentations provides a model for how God’s people can process moments when our collective depravity produces terrible fruits.

Jeremiah was a faithful prophet. He warned the people about coming judgment. And when the brokenness of humanity was on full display, lament was an appropriate response. It’s the voice of sorrow as we live between the effects of our rebellion and future restoration. Lamentations shows us how to pray when human depravity has created societal suffering.

4. Lamentations provides hope.

The third chapter contains the most well-known passages. We love reading that “the steadfast love of the Lord never ceases; his mercies never come to an end” (Lam. 3:22). But understanding the totality of the book of Lamentations deepens our understanding of where to find hope in hardship.

It’s important to remember that Jeremiah proclaims the never-ending, morning-ready mercies of the Lord over a destroyed city. Jerusalem looked like a wasteland and a war-zone. The destruction raised the question, “How did this happen?” While those questions linger and the suffering continues, Jeremiah pronounces (“this I call to mind,” 3:21) what he knows to be true about God despite what he sees.

Lamentations shows us the connection between the rehearsing of truth and the resurgence of hope.

5. Lamentations doesn’t end with resolution.

The book reaches its apex in chapter three. The remaining two chapters return to the reality of the suffering. There is no “happily-ever-after.” The book ends without resolution. Questions remain. Tears are shed. But in order to know the rest of the story, you have to look elsewhere in the Bible.

The end of Lamentations reflects the path of hardship. We believe while still in the dark. Lament leads us through sorrow to trust—even though we can’t see the future. So, in a way, the uncertain nature at the end of Lamentations is refreshing. It shows us how to trust when the immediate future remains uncertain and hard.

What can we learn and take away for necessary action from Lamentation? Four of them – Listen, Learn, Love, and Live

We must

1) LISTEN!

Lamentations is about an unnecessary tragedy. An unwillingness to follow God, attempts to “do life” the way you want and a stubborn heart will lead to costly and tragic circumstances. Have you created your own affliction? (Like Jonah created his own storm by going the opposite direction.)

Lamentations describes the problem (that they created), the plea for help from God, their pledge of faith in Him and a promise to return to following God completely

2) LEARN!

Let your mistakes, failures and even bad decisions teach you valuable lessons that will be beneficial in the future.

In the book of Lamentations, there was so much more the Lord wanted to give the people and do in their lives, and they almost forfeited it because of careless and foolish choices. They listened to people around them more than God.  You must hear and heed the voice of the Lord if you are going to produce successful ministry, business, career, life in the days ahead.

Lamentations 2:17 says, “The Lord has done what he purposed.” Pray today for the completion of God’s purpose in your life and leadership.

Want to be successful in life and ministry? Try this:

When life is heavy and hard to take, go off by yourself.
Enter the silence.
Bow in prayer.
Don’t ask questions
Wait for hope to appear.

Don’t run from trouble.
Take it “full-face.” The worst is never the worst.
— Lamentations 3:28-30 (The Message)

Lamentations Chapter 3 reminds us that the faithful love of the Lord never ends, His mercies are new every morning, His compassion will never fail us. Great is His faithfulness. I say to myself, “The Lord is my help and I will put my trust in Him.” (Lamentations 3:24)

3) LOVE!

Because the Lord’s love never fails and is always available, you will always have what you need to thrive. When you love others, you cause them to thrive as well.

Joshua 13:1 says: “There remains very much land yet to be possessed.”

4 LIVE!

Each day has life-changing potential; don’t waste one of them. Practice courage every day. Don’t settle for less, don’t compromise.

Prayer:

Father, as we enter the last quarter of this year 2022 and as we learn from Lamentation, Help us to remain in the secret place with you, one on one, to LISTEN to what you are saying, to LEARN from you what needs to be done, to LOVE unconditionally in unity and to LIVE extravagantly as Your  children, knowing that you have got our back both now and forever because your mercy endures forever.. we speak to anyone who needs your intervention at this very moment, SPIRIT of the living God, hover over them right now where they are at because there is no distance in the realm of the Spirit, in the name of Jesus, Christ, amen. I declare am encounter that endures for those who do not know you, and repentance as many that know you but do not reflect you. I speak healing , Deliverance and restoration to their spirit, their souls and their body and everything around them as they return to bring you glory, honor and adoration with tangible evidence of your mercy, your grace and your love, in Jesus name, amen

Shalom!
