Why Europe Needs Urgent Prayer
Europe, once the cradle of Christianity and missionary sending, is at a crossroads. The collapse of churches, rise of Islam, erosion of family structures, moral decline, and preparation for war with Russia have created a storm of crises. If statistics prove right, within 7–10 years Islam could surpass Christianity in population across the UK, France, and Germany—with leaders of Muslim heritage rising into power. In many places, mosques outnumber churches.
The parallel with Turkey is chilling: once the heart of the New Testament church (Ephesus, Antioch, Galatia), today it is over 98% Muslim with churches reduced to museums. This shift happened through a mix of secular complacency, Islamic expansion, persecution of families, and political compromises. Europe risks the same fate—unless we pray.
The decline of Christianity in Turkey was caused by the 1894-1924 genocide and ethnic cleansing of Armenian, Greek, and Assyrian communities by the Ottoman and early Turkish governments and populace. This was further compounded by a population exchange with Greece and mass emigration of remaining Christians. The systematic violence and expulsion were driven by a combination of factors including religious nationalism, social envy, and a desire to eliminate Christian communities perceived as a challenge to national identity and power.
EIGHT Stories of Crisis in Europe
United Kingdom
Story:
In Britain today, more mosques are being built than churches. London has Friday prayer gatherings larger than Sunday church attendance. Some towns where Christian chapels stood for 200 years are now dominated by Islamic centers. Simultaneously, far-right groups are growing violent, targeting asylum-seekers in hotels, firebombing shelters, and intimidating communities. Food banks are refusing “foreigners.” Churches, already weakened by secularism, are closing at a record pace—selling sanctuaries that become gyms, pubs, or mosques. The nation is also sinking into a permanent war economy, with £1.5 billion invested in “always-on” weapons factories. Fear dominates both the pulpit and parliament.
Prayer & Declaration:
- Scripture: “If My people… shall humble themselves and pray… then I will hear from heaven.” (2 Chron. 7:14)
- Prayer: Lord, revive Britain! Silence the spirit of fear and division. Rekindle the gospel flame across London, Birmingham, Manchester.
- Declaration: “We decree the UK shall not be lost to darkness. Every closed church shall give birth to 10 new prayer altars.”
Germany
Story:
Germany, the land of the Reformation, is now preparing for a return to conscription. From 181,000 active soldiers today, it plans to raise 260,000 plus 200,000 reservists. At the same time, thousands of churches have closed since the 1990s, while mosques rise on former church sites. In some German schools, Christian children are a minority in their own land. There is growing fear of Islam shaping the law and politics of the nation. Secularism is widespread, and the family is under siege: government agencies increasingly override parents in matters of education and gender ideology, threatening to criminalize Christian family values.
Prayer & Declaration:
- Scripture: “Righteousness and justice are the foundation of Your throne.” (Psalm 89:14)
- Prayer: Lord, uproot ungodly ideologies. Protect German families from state overreach. Let the fire of the Reformation be rekindled.
- Declaration: “We decree Germany will return to the gospel of Luther, not bow to shariah or secularism. Families will be preserved in Christ.”
France
Story:
France has seen the collapse of Catholic identity: from 81% in 1986 to less than 47% today, and most under 30 now identify as atheist or Muslim. In Paris, more Muslim babies are born each year than Christian. Tensions run high as secular laws clash with religious freedoms. At the same time, France has declared a “war economy”—scaling up drones, artillery, and weapons factories, pouring billions into preparation for conflict. Meanwhile, violent street crime, including rapes and racially motivated attacks, is rising. Secularism has not solved the moral crisis; instead, despair deepens.
Prayer & Declaration:
- Scripture: “Thy Kingdom come, Thy will be done.” (Matthew 6:10)
- Prayer: Lord, break atheism’s grip. Revive France with a new generation of Spirit-filled youth. Heal families devastated by crime and fear.
- Declaration: “We decree Paris shall be a city of light again, not humanism’s fortress. France shall return to Christ.”
Spain &
Portugal
Story:
In Spain, though 55% identify as Catholic, fewer than 20% practice their faith. In Portugal, witchcraft and new age practices openly thrive. Cathedrals that once launched missionaries now sit half-empty, while festivals of darkness and occult gatherings fill plazas. Suicide and depression rates among youth are climbing. The missionary fire that once sent thousands abroad has been quenched by materialism and unbelief.
Prayer & Declaration:
- Scripture: “Men ought always to pray, and not to faint.” (Luke 18:1)
- Prayer: Father, awaken Iberia! Replace occult festivals with gospel gatherings. Restore the missionary mantle of Spain and Portugal.
- Declaration: “We decree Spain and Portugal will again send missionaries of fire to the nations.”
Republic of Ireland & Northern Ireland
Story:
Ireland, once a Catholic bastion, has legalized abortion, embraced same-sex marriage, and adopted policies eroding family authority. Christian schools are pressured to include gender ideology in curricula. Northern Ireland’s once fiery Protestant witness has waned; churches are closing, pews empty, and secularism takes hold. Families lament that the state is slowly replacing parents.
Prayer & Declaration:
- Scripture: “You shall decree a thing, and it shall be established.” (Job 22:28)
- Prayer: Lord, heal Ireland. Restore family altars, break secular control over schools, ignite revival among the youth.
- Declaration: “We decree Ireland will once again be an island of prayer and fire for the gospel.”
Hungary & Eastern Europe
Story:
Hungary, Poland, and Romania resist liberalism but face immense strain: aging populations, mass youth migration, and economic weakness. In border regions, violent racial crime and human trafficking are increasing. Eastern Europe, once persecuted under communism, is facing a new ideological colonization from Western secularism. There is a desperate cry for strength, revival, and protection.
Prayer & Declaration:
- Scripture: “The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much.” (James 5:16)
- Prayer: Lord, strengthen Eastern Europe. Break racial hatred. Revive persecuted churches with fire.
- Declaration: “We decree Eastern Europe will not bow to corruption but rise as a refuge of revival.”
Greece
Story:
Migrants are detained in barbed-wire camps; reports tell of violence, hunger, and despair. Greece, the cradle of Paul’s missionary journeys, is now deeply secular and bankrupt spiritually. Athens—once a launchpad for the gospel—is now a city of idols of materialism and tourism. Many families are broken under poverty and migration strain.
Prayer & Declaration:
- Scripture: “In wrath, remember mercy.” (Habakkuk 3:2)
- Prayer: Lord, redeem Greece. Heal the broken migrants. Restore Athens as a gospel beacon.
- Declaration: “We decree Greece will not be a gate of despair but a gate of revival for Europe.”
Russia & Ukraine – War Without End
Story: Since 2022, the Russia-Ukraine war has claimed hundreds of thousands of lives, displaced millions, and dragged Europe into a perpetual crisis. Cities like Mariupol, Kharkiv, Donetsk, and Bakhmut are shells of themselves. No peace talks have produced fruit—each attempt collapses into deeper mistrust. Both nations share deep Christian roots (the ancient baptism of Kievan Rus in 988 AD gave birth to Orthodoxy across the Slavic world), yet today they are torn apart by hatred, nationalism, corruption, and spiritual blindness. Russia struggles with authoritarianism, economic strain, and spiritual stagnation. Ukraine is weighed down by corruption, war fatigue, and trauma. Both nations desperately need healing, repentance, and reconciliation at the Cross of Christ.
Prayer & Declaration:
Scripture: “In wrath remember mercy.” (Hab. 3:2)
Prayer: Lord, end the bloodshed between brothers. Heal the trauma of Ukraine. Humble Russia’s pride. Let both nations rediscover their common spiritual roots in Christ.
Declaration: “We decree the war shall not define the destiny of Ukraine or Russia. Peace, reconciliation, and revival shall spring forth, and the sword shall give way to the Cross.”
