Today, I will like to discuss on the word “Burdens” and “Yokes” and how it relates to ministry. This culminated into the title today – Ways You Can Identify Burdens of the Spirit and Weight of the spirit Upon Your Life While Activating Gods Ministry in Rest + Answers To – Are You a Part Time or Full Time Minister of God?

These words came to me while exercising yesterday morning. I made it a point of duty that beyond the general outline of the themes, I allow the Holy Spirit to lead me into the specific title that He desires that I work with Him on because what comes from me profit you nothing but what comes from the spirit – the now word brings life, light and understanding to the simple. Jesus said in

John 5:19-20 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)19 So Jesus answered them by saying, I assure you, most solemnly I tell you, the Son is able to do nothing of Himself (of His own accord); but He is able to do only what He sees the Father doing, for whatever the Father does is what the Son does in the same way [ in His turn].20 The Father dearly loves the Son and discloses to (shows) Him everything that He Himself does. And He will disclose to Him (let Him see) greater things yet than these, so that you may marvel and be full of wonder and astonishment.

I will like to build the discuss around “burdens” and “Yokes” dwelling on a number of scriptures as follows:

Matthew 11:28-30 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC) 28 Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [ I will [a]ease and relieve and [b]refresh [c]your souls. ]29 Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest ([d]relief and ease and refreshment and [e]recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.30 For My yoke is wholesome (useful, [f]good—not harsh, hard, sharp, or pressing, but comfortable, gracious, and pleasant), and My burden is light and easy to be borne.

Exodus 2:11-15 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)11 One day, after Moses was grown, it happened that he went out to his brethren and looked at their burdens; and he saw an Egyptian beating a Hebrew, one of [ Moses’] brethren.12 He looked this way and that way, and when he saw no one, he killed the Egyptian and hid him in the sand.13 He went out the second day and saw two Hebrew men quarreling and fighting; and he said to the unjust aggressor, Why are you striking your comrade?14 And the man said, Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian? Then Moses was afraid and thought, Surely this thing is known.15 When Pharaoh heard of it, he sought to slay Moses. But Moses fled from Pharaoh’s presence and [a]took refuge in the land of Midian, where he sat down by a well.

Exodus 6:6-7 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)Accordingly, say to the Israelites, I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians, and I will free you from their bondage, and I will rescue you with an outstretched arm [ with special and vigorous action] and by mighty acts of judgment. And I will take you to Me for a people, and I will be to you a God; and you shall know that it is I, the Lord your God, Who brings you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.

Numbers 11:11-17 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC) 11 And Moses said to the Lord, Why have You dealt ill with Your servants? And why have I not found favor in Your sight, that You lay the burden of all this people on me? 12 Have I conceived all this people? Have I brought them forth, that You should say to me, Carry them in your bosom, as a nursing father carries the sucking child, to the land which You swore to their fathers [ to give them]? 13 Where should I get meat to give to all these people? For they weep before me and say, Give us meat, that we may eat.14 I am not able to carry all these people alone, because the burden is too heavy for me.15 And if this is the way You deal with me, kill me, I pray You, at once, and be granting me a favor and let me not see my wretchedness [ in the failure of all my efforts].16 And the Lord said to Moses, Gather for Me [a]seventy men of the elders of Israel whom you know to be the elders of the people and officers over them; and bring them to the Tent of Meeting and let them stand there with you.17 And I will come down and talk with you there; and I will take of the Spirit which is upon you and will put It upon them; and they shall bear the burden of the people with you, so that you may not have to bear it yourself alone.

Hebrews 4:10-11 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)10 For he who has once entered [God’s ] rest also has ceased from [ the weariness and pain] of human labors, just as God rested from those labors [a]peculiarly His own.11 Let us therefore be zealous and exert ourselves and strive diligently to enter that rest [ of God, to know and experience it for ourselves], that no one may fall or perish by the same kind of unbelief and disobedience [ into which those in the wilderness fell].

Isaiah 58:6 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)[ Rather] is not this the fast that I have chosen: to loose the bonds of wickedness, to undo the bands of the yoke, to let the oppressed go free, and that you break every [ enslaving] yoke?

Matthew 20:25-28 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)25 And Jesus called them to Him and said, You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their great men hold them in subjection [ tyrannizing over them].26 Not so shall it be among you; but whoever wishes to be great among you must be your servant,27 And whoever desires to be first among you must be your slave—28 Just as the Son of Man came not to be waited on but to serve, and to give His life as a ransom for many [the price paid to set them free ].

1 Corinthians 9:19-23 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)

19 For although I am free in every way from anyone’s control, I have made myself a bond servant to everyone, so that I might gain the more [ for Christ].20 To the Jews I became as a Jew, that I might win Jews; to men under the Law, [ I became] as one under the Law, though not myself being under the Law, that I might win those under the Law.21 To those without (outside) law I became as one without law, not that I am without the law of God and lawless toward Him, but that I am [ especially keeping] within and committed to the law of Christ, that I might win those who are without law.22 To the weak (wanting in discernment) I have become weak (wanting in discernment) that I might win the weak and overscrupulous. I have [ in short] become all things to all men, that I might by all means (at all costs and in any and every way) save some [ by winning them to faith in Jesus Christ].23 And I do this for the sake of the good news (the Gospel), in order that I may become a participator in it and share in its [ blessings along with you].

Comments:

Burden is a weight or something carried, a worry or sadness, or a responsibility. The cargo in a ship is an example of a burden. The sadness of a love one’s illness is an example of a burden. Another example of a burden is the duties that come with being a new parent or the burden of fear and anxiety.

The world is currently under the burden of COVID -19. The race to secure a working vaccine is also a burden upon the human race. Anything that puts undue pressure on us beyond the ordinary is a burden.

There are a lot of inevitable givens in life, including suffering, pain, unfairness, disloyalty, infidelity, and so on and so forth. We find explanations in some of these situations but find none in others.

When we experience sufferings and pains, we look for answers. Others people seek and ask God why He allowed bad things to happen to them.

While others turn to God for relief and refuge, some distance from God. It is very essential for us to see and know God and see Him as our protector and comforter. A God who listens to us when we call on him; who shows mercy and compassion when we are in despair; and who gives strength when we are tired.

A yoke is a way of harnessing two animals together to pull a heavy load.

Most of us want relief from our distress but we do not want a relationship with the one who can take away the distress. Some of us have settled into religion but don’t have a relationship with the God of the religion we run after.

The result is a heavy burden without any rest in sight. We get yoked with the world, the things that appeal to the senses and our ego. The things that fuel pride and eventually, we get yoked with Satan. With this setting, we can go so far with our burdens and our yokes as we get crushed under its weight.

The law of Moses was burdensome and oppressive. It focused only on actions but did not care about the intent or desires. The law seemed to have no mercy.

Jesus fulfilled that law, and offered instead his gospel, the gospel of Jesus Christ, which is a gospel of hope. Jesus Christ simply asks us to follow Him and to love everyone, so his burden was light compared to the hundreds of commandments and prohibitions under the law of Moses.

In coming into real relationship with Jesus, rest comes naturally to us. Rest in our spirit, our soul and our body.

Imagine yourself yoked with Jesus Christ. With His help and with Him doing the heavy lifting, you could accomplish anything that was in harmony with Him and His teachings. When we inevitably make mistakes, He has satisfied justice by paying the price for our sins, so we only need to have faith in Him and to repent, and we are forgiven.

But how do we yoke ourselves to the Savior? I think we do this by learning about Him and then following Him by doing the things that He taught and that He did, which was serving and caring for others, and obeying and doing the will of the Father.

More specifically, I believe that we bind ourselves to Him when we make covenants with Him through his ordinances. By one holding the proper priesthood authority, we take His name upon us, and we bind or yoke ourselves with Him. By doing this, our burden becomes light and easy to bear because Jesus Christ carries us and our load.

Secondly, we take on the burden of others as Jesus did and pass it over to Him as His ambassadors to carry which ultimately give rest to those who receive it.

As we do that, we bring more people to Jesus from the heavy burdens and yokes that the world and satan has put upon them. This is where we find ministry.

MINISTRY –  Are you in a Part-time or a full- time Ministry?

Answer:

Some people asked me if I was in a full-time ministry or a part-time. I told them and continue to tell them that there is nothing like a full-time ministry or part-time ministry. We are ambassadors of Christ full-time. I have not seen a part-time ambassador. When you are in the kingdom of God, you are in the kingdom of God full time. You are not a part-time citizen of the kingdom of God but full time and every member of the kingdom is on service, 24/7.

The fact of the matter is that if we continue to put this part-time mindset on, the devil can trick us into living at ease in the middle of the battle as end-time soldiers of Christ. We get taken off guide when we should be on duty 24/7.  The result is that we become neither hot or cold as Jesus revealed in Revelation 3:16 and the Lord can vomit us out.  As part-time Christians, we become people who are hungry to be fed all the time and end up not doing anything with it. We become very efficient armchair critics of those who are actually working in their ministry. We become the dead sea, giving out bitter water rather than the sea of Galilee that takes in fresh water and gives out fresh water.

As children of God, when we keep learning and never coming to the truth, our lives, spiritually speaking become restless and we can implode from within at any time and make a shipwreck of our faith in Christ Jesus.

See also  I don't have a Church and I cannot have one; I will remain in the Winners Family says Bishop Aremu

Everyone has a burden that is easy that the Lord gives as we became His children. He exchanges these burden, spiritually speaking – our earthly burdens from Egypt with heavenly burdens of service, as extension of His ministry of securing souls for eternity.

For some, it could be children’s ministry and everything that affects children negatively becomes our burden. For others, it could be widows and all the plight of widows. For some, it could be politics, politicians, and government and the mess going on there that becomes a burden.

For some of us, it could be the plight of orphans. For some it could be prisoners. Some others, it could be how to manage money and the pains that accompany that angle. How we use this to draw men and women to Jesus is the core fact we need to focus on.

Anything and everything we are and we do passionately is a potential seed to be used to reach the lost for Christ. It must be an all-consuming desire within us as the Holy Spirit uses it creatively to draw souls to the kingdom. We must be ready as containers or vessels for this purpose. Everything in the kingdom rises and falls on this singular truth of bringing the lost back home, where they belong. But we have been sidetracked by the evil one through relentless worldly and church activities which results in zero souls being won to the Kingdom.

These activities upon activities become weights upon our spirit rather than God’s burden upon our spirit to be productive, fruit-producing disciples thereby making the heavens rejoice. Read this and catch the vibe from the heart of Jesus Christ..

Luke 15:7-10 Amplified Bible, Classic Edition (AMPC)Thus, I tell you, there will be more joy in heaven over one [[a]especially ] wicked person who repents ([b]changes his mind, abhorring his errors and misdeeds, and determines to enter upon a better course of life) than over ninety-nine righteous persons who have no need of repentance.Or what woman, having ten [ silver] drachmas [ each one equal to a day’s wages], if she loses one coin, does not light a lamp and sweep the house and look carefully and diligently until she finds it?And when she has found it, she summons her [ women] friends and neighbors, saying, Rejoice with me, for I have found the silver coin which I had lost.10 Even so, I tell you, there is joy among and in the presence of the angels of God over one [[c]especially ] wicked person who repents ([d]changes his mind for the better, heartily amending his ways, with abhorrence of his past sins).

In the case of Moses, it was the burden the Israelite were facing in Egypt that touched him and moved him to action which led to his exile. That burden became a ministry for Moses as he led the children of Israel out of the bondage of Egypt to the promised land. When the burden became too heavy for Moses, God, through the Holy Spirit was available to help him as we read above in Number 11:11-17

For me, it is the Church, Leadership and the need for unity in the body of Christ.  These are the burden of the Spirit. It is usually others focused. The burden the Holy Spirit lays on us for the work of ministry in fulfilling “come to me all ye who labor and are heavily burdened.” Are for souls to come in from Egypt to the promised land of the kingdom of God.

There are temporary burdens for a specific task or permanent burden for a long-term task that can continue unto we return back to Him. Some temporary burden could be for prayer at a specific time. You just have a restlessness in your spirit to pray for someone or a group of people or your nation. Don’t sit on it. Start praying immediately until you have a release.

One of the temporary burdens I had was when the Spirit of God told me in January 2010 to write a book on revival in the land based on His inspiration. I traveled to the 36 states of the country and distributed 12 copies of the book to 7 churches in each of the 36 states including Abuja. I traveled for 12 days all over Nigeria by road, covering 7000 km with thousands of books in the trunk of the truck. Upon return to Lagos, the burden was lifted. I literally felt it lifted off me. There was a release. This was a temporary burden.

I urge you, to prayerfully take inventory of the burdens that you carried or are carrying and ask Him to put light on the one He has designed for you so that you can run the race with purpose and rest. If yours has died, ask the Holy Spirit to stir it up and as He does, do something about it.

Start by putting up a plan of action and run with it. The daily steps will get clearer as you show commitment and the grace will be impacted along the way. All the resources you need will be made available along the way, not when you are sitting down and doing nothing about it. Taking step indicate cooperation, obedience, commitment and faith. The grace is provisioned for the task day by day.

There are also burdens the enemy – Satan puts on our spirit as weights. Let’s explore that now as we filter through while activating for ministry the specific burdens the Lord is laying or has laid upon us.

Let’s look at The Burden of The Spirit And Weight Of The spirit and how to differentiate them in our ministry service to the Lord.

There is a difference between the burden of the spirit and the weight of the spirit. The weight of the spirit is from satan, and its purpose is to cause believers to suffer; Satan uses the weight to suppress them. The burden of the spirit, however, is from God. Its purpose is to make known His will and secure the believers’ cooperation. The weight of the spirit has no other purpose except to suppress. As such, it is useless and fruitless. The burden of the spirit is a burden from God, and its goal is to cause men to work, intercede, and preach for God. Such a burden is purposeful, reasonable, and profitable. Believers must differentiate between the burden in their spirit and the weight in their spirit.

Satan does not give any burden to the believers; he only surrounds the believers’ spirit and oppresses the believers with the weight. Satan’s weight causes the believers’ spirit to be bound and their minds to stop functioning. A person who bears a burden only has to bear the burden itself; but a person who is oppressed is bound in his whole being.

Once the power of darkness comes to a believer, he loses his freedom immediately. However, a burden from God is not like this. No matter how heavy God’s burden is, it will never be so heavy that a person cannot pray. The freedom of prayer will never be lost under any kind of burden. But the weight imposed by the enemy takes away the believers’ freedom in prayer.

In fact, except for some wrestling and withstanding prayers, this weight cannot be removed. God’s burden is removed once we pray. But this is not true with the weight from the enemy. Moreover, the weight of the spirit creeps in secretly, while the burden in the spirit is the result of the Holy Spirit’s work in our spirit. The weight of the spirit is painful and suppresses the believers’ life; the burden in the spirit is joyful because it cooperates with God (Matt. 11:30). (Of course, the flesh does not feel joyful about the spirit’s burden. Furthermore, this burden is also painful if one does not meet its demands.)

All real work begins first with a burden in the spirit. (Of course, when we do not have a burden in the spirit, there is the need to exercise the mind.) When God wants us to do something, say something, or pray for something, He first gives us a burden in our spirit. If we know the laws of the spirit, we will not rashly continue on with the work in our hands, allowing the burden to become heavier and heavier. (Perhaps when we allow the matter to go on for a long time, the sense for the burden may be lost.)

See also  The Power of Discipleship - being discipled - discipling others - results produced

We should drop everything and study the burden. After we understand the meaning of the burden, we should walk according to what we know. When everything is accomplished, the burden will be gone from us.

Ordinarily, a believer’s spirit must be free and unsuppressed before it can receive burdens from God. Only a free spirit can sense the move of the Holy Spirit. A spirit that has been filled with weight is no longer keen in its intuition and cannot be a good vessel anymore. Many times a believer receives a burden from God, yet he cannot carry out the requirements of the burden. As a result his spirit suffers for many days from the burden, and he is not able to receive any fresh burden from God. Hence, it is very important to find out the meaning of a burden in prayer by the Holy Spirit and through the exercise of the mind.

Many times the burden in the spirit is for us to pray (Col. 4:12). Actually, we cannot pray more than our burden. To continue to pray without a burden is surely ineffective, and it comes from the self-will. The burden of prayer that comes from the spirit can only be relieved through prayer. Actually, all burdens are this way. If God burdens our spirit with a certain burden, we can only relieve the burden in our spirit by fulfilling what God wants us to do, either through prayer or through proclaiming His message. Only when we have a burden in our spirit to pray can we pray in the Holy Spirit, and only then can we pray with groanings which cannot be uttered. When there is a burden in our spirit to pray, nothing can alleviate this burden and nothing can release us except prayer. When the things we pray for are accomplished, the burden is immediately lifted from us.

Many times believers have accumulated too many burdens of prayer in their spirit. When they begin to pray, it seems to be a very painful task. But the more the believers pray, the more their spirit will say amen. We must try our best to thoroughly pray out what is burdening us in our spirit, until the burden is fully removed from us. The more we express our life in our prayers as well as everything we have, the more comfortable we will become. But there is a temptation in this kind of prayer to stop praying before the burden is gone. Most believers think that as soon as they are somewhat relieved in their spirit, their prayers are answered. Actually, this is the time when proper spiritual work begins. If we turn away to do other things at this juncture, the spiritual work will suffer.

Believers must not be misled to think that all spiritual works are happy and joyful; nor should they think that once there is some kind of burden, they have lost their spiritual experience. It is very unfortunate that believers do not realize that the burden in the spirit is the source of real spiritual work. Only those who suffer in this way for God and men truly do not live for themselves. All the other ones who seek for joy in their feelings and who are afraid of taking up any burden for the church are living for themselves and are soulish. Hence, when God gives us a burden, we should not think that we have fallen or that we have committed some errors. Satan loves to see us think this way, for this kind of thinking spares him from our attacks. We should not misunderstand ourselves. If we listen to Satan and think that there is something wrong with us, we will come under his accusations even more and suffer.

Genuine spiritual work is an assault on Satan and a travail in birth for the believers. There is indeed no joy to this! This requires one to die to the self in the deepest way. For this reason, no soulish believer can truly participate in spiritual work. Having a happy feeling all day long is not a proof of a believer’s spirituality. The right kind of believers advance with God without caring for their own feelings. Many times when believers are burdened in their spirit to fight with the enemy, they prefer to be alone and cut off all fellowship with the world, so that they can concentrate in their warfare with the enemy. At the end of this warfare, it is difficult to find any trace of a smile on their face. Hence, all spiritual believers should welcome the burdens from the Lord.

Believers must know the laws of the spirit and the way to cooperate with God. Otherwise, they will neglect such burdens and consequently suffer. Soon they even lose their burdens and do not participate in the most glorious co-labor with God. Therefore, every time there is a burden in the spirit, they should immediately find out what the burden is in prayer. If it is a call to fight, they should fight. If it is a call to preach the gospel, they should preach the gospel. If it is a call to prayer, they should pray. They should seek to work together with God. They should move the old burdens out of the way, so that the new burdens can come.

ACTIVATION AND PRAYER:

Father, Lord Jesus Christ, Dear Holy Spirit, thank you for the enlightenment you have given me concerning the burdens and the work of ministry. Holy Spirit, search me now and x-ray all the burdens I have carried or I am carrying. Remove that which comes from the evil one that has become a weight on my spirit and put your light, stir the desire within me that I might recognize this as coming from You and grant me wisdom to carry out what it is you have burdened me to do faithfully by Your power working within me for Your glory. I now activate this burdens for ministry now in Jesus name, amen.
