Matthew 5:16
In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.
Transparency is another characteristic of a Jesus’ learner. The way we truly are, is never hidden from God. His Scriptures can cut to the bone showing us what we are like. When we are transparent, others can see what is going on and encourage us. It means we don’t have to pretend to be something we are not. We can be real about our struggles and our hopes. We can accept people for whom they really are and accept ourselves, since God has accepted us in Jesus.
Transparency is necessary if we really want to encourage one another to love and good works. We let His light shine into our lives and receive motivation and direction. We don’t have to be like Adam and Eve who hid from God after they sinned. We maintain healthy boundaries but are open to learn. We reflect on who we are in Christ in the openness and safety of our faith community. Shine your Light in and through us for Your glory, O Lord.
Short Story
Transparency: The Key to a Healthy Relationship
Samantha and Alex had been dating for a few months when they realized that their relationship was facing a roadblock. They were both passionate about each other, but they couldn’t seem to communicate effectively. They found themselves arguing over little things, and the tension between them was palpable.
One day, Alex confided in his best friend, John, about the issues he was facing with Samantha. John, who had been in a long-term relationship himself, listened patiently and offered some advice.
“The problem is that you two are not being transparent with each other,” John said. “You need to be open and honest about your feelings and thoughts. That’s the only way to build trust and move forward.”
Alex took John’s words to heart and decided to talk to Samantha about their issues. He told her that he felt like they were struggling to communicate effectively and that he wanted to work on their relationship.
Samantha was taken aback at first, but she quickly realized that Alex was right. They had both been holding back and not being completely honest with each other. They had been afraid of hurting each other’s feelings or causing conflict.
They decided to make a conscious effort to be more transparent with each other. They started by sharing their thoughts and feelings openly, without fear of judgment. They also made a point to listen to each other without interrupting or getting defensive.
As they became more transparent, they began to understand each other better. They discovered that they had both been carrying around a lot of baggage from past relationships, and that they had been projecting their own insecurities onto each other.
With this newfound understanding, they were able to communicate more effectively and work through their issues. They learned to trust each other and to be vulnerable with each other.
As time went on, their relationship flourished. They became each other’s rock, supporting each other through the ups and downs of life. They learned that transparency was the key to a healthy and fulfilling relationship.
Years later, they looked back on their journey and realized that their relationship had been a testament to the power of transparency. They had learned that by being open and honest with each other, they could overcome any obstacle and build a strong, loving relationship that would last a lifetime.

For Reflection:
- Do you think Jesus was a transparent person?
- How is he an example for us?
Make Life Count:
- On a scale of 1 to 10, how transparent a person are you? Is that what you want?
Shalom!
