Day 27 of 40 Day Discipleship Walk with Jesus Christ: Ask Questions

Mark 10:51

“What do  you  want me  to do for you?” Jesus asked him. The blind man said, “Rabbi, I want to see.”

Short Story on asking Questions

Day 27 of 40 Day Discipleship Walk with Jesus Christ: Ask Questions

As I sat in my grandmother’s kitchen, sipping tea and listening to her stories, I realized that she had a gift for asking good questions. She had a way of getting to the heart of the matter, of uncovering the deepest desires and longings of those around her.

I remember one time in particular when she asked me a question that changed everything. I was going through a difficult time, struggling with doubts and fears about my future. I had lost my way, and I felt like I was wandering in the wilderness, unsure of how to find my path again.

My grandmother looked at me with her wise and gentle eyes, and she asked, “What do you want me to do for you?”

At first, I was taken aback. I didn’t know how to answer. I didn’t know what I wanted, other than to feel better. But as I sat there, trying to formulate a response, I realized that what I truly wanted was to see. I wanted to see the world with new eyes, to see the beauty and the wonder that was all around me.

And so, I answered her question with the simple phrase, “I want to see.”

My grandmother smiled, and she took my hand in hers. She looked at me with such love and compassion, and she said, “Then let us go on a journey of discovery together. Let us explore the world with fresh eyes, and let us see the beauty that is all around us.”

And so, we did. We went on a journey of discovery, exploring the world with fresh eyes and an open heart. We saw the beauty in the smallest things, the wonder in the everyday. And through it all, my grandmother asked me good questions, questions that helped me to see myself and the world in a new light.

Years have passed since then, but the lessons I learned from my grandmother remain with me still. I have come to realize that the art of asking good questions is a powerful tool, one that can help us to see the world in a new light, to discover our deepest desires and longings, and to find our way in the world.

And so, I ask myself, what do I want to do for me? What do I want to see? And as I explore the world with fresh eyes, I know that my grandmother will be there with me, asking good questions and guiding me on my journey of discovery.

…End

If you are doing these 40 days but are having trouble finding meaningful fellowship where you live, then learn to ask more questions. At times we may feel we have no one who cares about us. We may visit a church that feels cold or unfriendly. We may enter and leave and no one greets us. No one seems to care or they are too busy talking to their friends. We may find a small group but it takes time to feel at home. One thing we can do is ask people more questions. Listen to their story. Find out how they are unique. Look for common experiences. Be open to learn about anything you can from their lives.

Asking good questions is an art that comes by practice. If we persevere we will find others who want to grow and we can encourage each other. Sometimes the right question is more important than the right answer.

For Reflection:

  • Why did Jesus ask the man what he wanted?
  • How would you answer Jesus’ question?

Make Life Count:

  • Go for a walk and answer the question that Jesus asks “What do you want me to do for you?”

Shalom!
