Introduction:

Brethren, in the series on “the great exchange for service,” this last topic crown it all. The question of our BEING and our DOING. What comes first? Who we are or What we do? The correct answer to this question will aid our acceleration and speed to maturity as our rubber hits the road of our Christian race, this is where God defines whose are His and whose are of the devil and eventually our aboard in eternity.

In addressing proper positioning for service with the question of being and doing, We will explore ten (10) scriptures to give clarity. We will talk a bit on doctrine, importance of personal study, and self-examination or testing with the help of the Holy Spirit to look ourselves at the mirror and have the Holy Spirit play back to us our true self so that we can yield to His transforming power in our lives. We will also look the maturing process and how it ties into service. On self-confrontation or self-examination, I did this some time ago and was shocked at the rubbish I was still carrying which has helped me to yield to the slow and steady transforming work of the Holy Spirit.

There are 202 images or vices to look at. Take your time!

It is not about the number of years one became or has being a Christian. You can be in it for  2 years or 50 years and still be an infant in God and still heading in the opposite direction if we fail to yield ourselves to His refining work. It is a daily taking up of our cross and following Him. Let’s begin now. I beg you, by the mercies of God, don’t rush this part. Take your time, set out a time to do due diligence as you will do an important venture of whatever kind. The is eternity we are talking about.  Open yourself to the Holy Spirit. He is more than willing on this subject matter more than asking Him for blessings and things. He says we should seek Him first, remember? And every other thing will follow.

Just to add that we are all in full time ministry in service to God first whether we are doctors, nurses, teachers, administrators, engineers, architects, ministers, missionaries, students etc and our mission field is all around us. In God, we have no two caps. One for Gods business and the other for professional endeavor. God expects us to work for Him and with Him everywhere we are, full time. We must wear one cap and one cap only. When we create separation, we set ourselves up for the wicked one to sneak in. Daniel, Joseph, Nehemiah and others are examples for us to emulate. So full time mission workers, let us take an in-depth look at the great exchange for service with a view to seeing what we must be while we are doing His bidding.

1) John 14:30

30 I will no longer talk much with you, for the ruler of this world is coming, and he has nothing in Me.

Question 1) – What was Jesus referring to as “finding nothing in me”.?

2) Romans 12:1-2

1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

2 And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Question 2– Who does the presenting for service, me, God, pastor, the Holy Spirit? Why is that a reasonable service. Are we saying there are no other services that one can undertake?

3) 2 Timothy 3:16-17

16 All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness,17 that the man of God may be complete, thoroughly equipped for every good work.

Questions 3:-Why all scripture and not some scripture? Why all of the scripture for GOOD work?  Does that mean there could a BAD work?

4) Exodus 2:11-15

14 Then he said, “Who made you a prince and a judge over us? Do you intend to kill me as you killed the Egyptian?” So Moses feared and said, “Surely this thing is known!”

15 When Pharaoh heard of this matter, he sought to kill Moses. But Moses fled from the face of Pharaoh and dwelt in the land of Midian; and he sat down by a well.

Question 4– MOSES had a call and in terms of solidarity, he was in. So who pushed Moses to do this flesh or God?

5) Numbers 20:2-13

12 Then the LORD spoke to Moses and Aaron, “Because you did not believe Me, to hallow Me in the eyes of the children of Israel, therefore you shall not bring this assembly into the land which I have given them.”

Question 5– MOSES, a man who was most humble amongst the men of the earth, that spoke to God face-to-face, could not make to earthly promised land because He moved in the flesh in anger to provocation by Gods people that He went to deliver. Do you think God will excuse my failings if I fail to present myself for His inward working?

6) Matthew 7:21-23

21 “Not everyone who says to Me, ‘Lord, Lord,’ shall enter the kingdom of heaven, but he who does the will of My Father in heaven.

22 Many will say to Me in that day, ‘Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in Your name, cast out demons in Your name, and done many wonders in Your name?’

23 And then I will declare to them, ‘I never knew you; depart from Me, you who practice lawlessness!’

Questions 6– When it came to service, these people Jesus referred to  where Gods servant, active and producing results as per things people can see. So what was in them that Jesus rejected and cast them out of His kingdom and said He never knew them? Is there anything in me that I might be unaware of? as we can see, they were shocked, means they were not aware that something was amiss. How come?

7) 2 Timothy 4:3says “For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine”

Question 7 –What is sound doctrine? Are we in the era of seducing doctrine to replace sound doctrine? What must we do to avoid seducing doctrine already in our midst?

8) 2 John 9He that abideth in the doctrine of Christ, he hath both the Father and the Son”

Question 8– Does it mean if I do not abide in the doctrine I do not have the Father and the Son,? In essence, am I no-longer a believer without a sound doctrine?

9) 2 Corinthians 7:1

1 Therefore, having these promises, beloved, let us cleanse ourselves from all filthiness of the flesh and spirit, perfecting holiness in the fear of God.

Question 9 –who does the cleansing and why of the flesh and spirit? Can those be polluted as well? Is perfecting once and for all event or a continual process?

10) Jude 1:7-11

7 as Sodom and Gomorrah, and the cities around them in a similar manner to these, having given themselves over to sexual immorality and gone after strange flesh, are set forth as an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

8 Likewise also these dreamers defile the flesh, reject authority, and speak evil of dignitaries.

9 Yet Michael the archangel, in contending with the devil, when he disputed about the body of Moses, dared not bring against him a reviling accusation, but said, “The Lord rebuke you!”

10 But these speak evil of whatever they do not know; and whatever they know naturally, like brute beasts, in these things they corrupt themselves.

11 Woe to them! For they have gone in the way of Cain, have run greedily in the error of Balaam for profit, and perished in the rebellion of Korah.

Questions 10– Can my flesh and what I say pollute me? What does suffering the vengeance of eternal fire mean in comparison to Sodom and Gomorrah? Who are does sent there? Why was angel Micheal contending and disputing with satan over the body of Moses? What was in Moses a man of God that the devil wanted? Could this have anything to do with Numbers 20:2-13 where moses disobeyed God? But why the body of Moses? What is the error of Balaam?

What I can draw from the above exposer of the scripture is that  I can work for God and not with Him. I must continually check to be sure I am working with God. If I am not working with God, it means I am working for someone else.

DOCTRINE, SELF STUDY AND TESTING Or EXAMINATION:

A sound doctrine is that set of definitions without which nothing else can be understood. Indeed, no statement about prayer, experience, witnessing, the Holy Spirit, or the nature of Christ can even be understood without a reference to sound Bible doctrine.

To believe the wrong thing is far more serious and deadly than to do the wrong thing. Ask yourself questions , how many doctrines of the devil do I really understand? With how many have I already been subverted?

Many Christians, though saved by believing the truth, have been rendered spiritually impotent through accepting, along with the truth, a doctrine of satan.

MATURING PROCESS:

The truth is, there is no shortcut to knowledge, maturity, or destiny. When we receive Jesus Christ as our Saviour, we are blessed with all spiritual blessings in heavenly places in Christ. But the road from innocence to maturity is long and difficult. Daily, we are to be involved in the program of ” perfecting holiness in the fear of God” (2Corinthians 7:1)” The process of maturing that prepares us for our eternal and heavenly responsibilities involves suffering, rejection, persecution, complex moral decisions, study, prayer, tireless labor, successes, failures, and the chastening of God. No message is more cruel to preach to the new Christian than the idea that there is an instant, giant step to maturity that comes through some unique involvement or experience.

Christian sanctification comes to us in a positional sense instantly and totally when we receive Christ. Progressive sanctification is a daily and laborious task and will not and cannot be fulfilled so long as we live in a sinful world.

That is indeed the way God has ordained it. Earth is like a university, mane our course of study will never be complete so long as we live on this campus.

How many millions of Christians have been fixed in a state of tragic immaturity because they have believed a doctrine of instant perfection that has no basis in scripture? Spiritual infants populate our churches and become problems because they have not continued to grow in grace and in the knowledge of our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ.

I have difficulty understanding people who don’t read their bible or read books written by Christians who are inspired by the Holy Spirit. We got born again by reference to the written word. Our whole faith hangs on the balance of the written word. When we take petitions to the Lord, is it not based on the written word? If then the testimony by two or more witnesses, settles a thing, Why then should I not continue to read inspired messages by the leading of the Holy Spirit so that I might show myself a workman, ready to show myself approved as situations and circumstances presents themselves? In fact, the greatest testing by Satan was squashed  by the Lord Jesus Christ through reverence to the written word. I mean, Jesus, Gods representative on earth referenced all the written word and taught His disciples from the word.

His ministry was confirmed by the word at each stage and He promised that not a dot will go unfulfilled before the end of the earth. I encourage you today to take a book a week and read, make notes as you read, ask the Holy Spirit to expound it and translate it, ask Him to help you to apply and obey all that He himself have revealed to you and see how your transformation and growth will be evident to all to whom you are called to serve. The great exchange for service starts from personal development in the secret place. We are to concentrate on reading, exhortation and doctrine ( 1 Timothy 4:13).

TESTING – EXAMINE – EXAMINATION OF SELF

This list are from the book “whose image are you” by LaFAMCALL available at https://shop.otakada.org/product-category/holy-ghost-school/  or on Amazon in Ebook and paperback and apple iTunes. They have done a very detailed work so let’s explore.

We shall now look at a partial list of the devil’s vices. These are the things that make the devil the devil! Vices are the manifestations of the nature and life of the devil. They are the things that also make us become like the devil, that is become his image.

These are the things God wants to remove from our lives as we come to His presence to eat at his table to be effective in the service and to perfect holiness in our lives.

How to Use the List

Go through the list and then go to God in prayer, asking Him to reveal to you the vices that are in your life. This prayer for revelation is necessary because these things are so hidden that we cannot see them by ourselves. Moreover, the heart of man is so deceitful that we shouldn’t trust our own hearts!

Pray and ask God to remove the vices in you, and replace them with the fruits, the virtue of Christ, so that you can become more like Jesus.

Conclusion

Take time to go over the list, asking the Holy spirits to give clarity to the truth of our state.

John 8:31-32

31 Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed Him, “If you abide in My word, you are My disciples indeed.32 And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

As we identify the area of weakness, let us take the scripture that speak to that area of our lives and begin to meditate on it and the truth of that word will bring deliverance, transformation and restoration in Jesus name, amen

Shalom!
