Once upon a time, in a small village nestled in the mountains, there lived a young girl named Maya. Maya was a kind and gentle soul, always willing to lend a helping hand to those in need. However, she was also very one-dimensional, only excelling in one or two areas but struggling in all the others. She was exceptionally good at cooking, but her poor grades in school and her lack of knowledge about the outside world made her feel like there was something missing in her life.

One day, a wise old man came to the village and saw Maya struggling to build a stable. He approached her and asked her why she was only focusing on one task at a time. Maya explained her weaknesses and the old man smiled knowingly. He told her that true strength comes not from being great in one area, but from being well-rounded. He explained that just like how a tree grows branches and roots, a person should also grow in all areas to be truly strong.

Maya was intrigued by this idea and the old man agreed to teach her the ways of growing all round. He first taught her how to read and write, which helped her to improve her grades in school. He then taught her how to build things with her own hands, like a stable or a bridge, which gave her a sense of accomplishment. He even taught her how to plant and nurture her own garden, which brought her closer to nature.

As Maya learned and grew, she discovered that she was no longer one-dimensional. She had become a well-rounded individual with many skills and talents. She no longer felt the need to just excel in one area, because she had mastered many. Her cooking skills had improved, her confidence had grown and her relationships with the villagers had become stronger.

The villagers were amazed at Maya’s transformation and began to seek her guidance and advice. They saw her as a leader and a role model, not just a kind and gentle soul. Maya realized that by growing all round, she had become a person of true strength and character. She had become a tree that had grown strong branches and roots, and the villagers benefited from her shade and her fruit.

Years went by, and Maya’s reputation as a well-rounded individual spread far and wide. People came from all over to seek her guidance and wisdom. She was no longer just a young girl from a small village, but a symbol of hope and strength for all those who sought to grow and succeed.

And so, Maya’s story spread throughout the land, inspiring generations to come. The importance of growing all round, just like the wise old man had taught her, became a lesson passed down from one generation to the next.

Jude 1:20-21

But you, dear friends, by building yourselves up in your most holy faith and praying in the Holy Spirit, keep yourselves in God’s love as you wait for the mercy of our Lord Jesus Christ to bring you to eternal life.

We have looked at the DNA of discipleship (Divine truth, Nurturing relationships and Advancing the mission) and practiced the being, doing and thinking related to faith in Jesus. We said at the beginning that 40 days was a time of testing where something significant was going to happen. Do you have any idea what that might be? Don’t worry if it is not yet clear because sometimes growth is invisible.

Sometimes it is something that others can see but we don’t see in ourselves. Sometimes it is a feeling or a conviction but sometimes it is simply having survived the test. Rejoice! Thank God! Celebrate the accomplishment! Telling someone else as your example of perseverance may be of great encouragement and an example to follow. And express your gratitude to God for such a Savior as Jesus Christ.

For Reflection:

  • Do you have someone to invite to this DNA Series while you go on to the next one? This could be the best step of learning you make in this

Make Life Count:

  • Write an email inviting someone to take Series 1 while you begin Series 2. Both Series are designed to work together, so as you continue in the second series you can encourage someone in the first one.
  • Send us an email at ambassador@otakada.org for any question or direction you might need.
