Day 12 of 40 Day Discipleship Walk with Jesus Christ: Read God-breathed Scriptures

The old church, with its peeling paint and creaky pews, felt alive as the sun filtered through stained glass, casting colorful patterns on the dusty floor. Sarah flipped through her worn Bible, the pages well-loved and frayed. “Do you really think it matters?” she asked, glancing at Mark, who was busy doodling in the margin of his own copy. “Of course it does,” he replied, not looking up. “It’s all about what we take from it. Look at 2 Timothy. It says we’re equipped for good works.” “Yeah, but what does that even mean?” She leaned closer, her brow furrowed. “What if we’re just… missing the point?” Mark finally met her gaze, his expression serious. “It means we can teach others. Rebuke them when they stray. It’s about being a guide.” Sarah sighed, her fingers tracing the verse. “But what if I don’t feel equipped? What if I mess up?” “Then you learn, Sarah. That’s the whole point.” His voice softened. “We’re all a work in progress.” The wind howled outside, rattling the windows. “Fine,” she said, a smile creeping onto her face. “Let’s be works in progress together.” “Deal,” he laughed, the sound echoing through the empty church. And for the first time, she felt a spark of hope.

2 Timothy 3:16-17

All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work.

How do the Scriptures work in our lives? The Apostle Paul said to Timothy that “all Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness.”

God breathes the Scriptures out through the writers and we breathe them in when we read them. When that happens we get to know the path of Jesus, when we get off it, how to get back on and to enjoy the result of seeing our lives change.

There are different ways we receive the Scriptures through: hearing, reading, studying, memorizing and meditating. We need all 5, especially how to meditate on the Scriptures. Like a cow which eats grass, then chews over it very slowly, we chew over the Scriptures and think about them continually. This nourishes our soul and shows us how to think, and be and do. Our daily plan reminds us to go back to the Scriptures and we can try different times of day to read the Scripture portions.

For Reflection:

  • What does it mean that the Scriptures are God-breathed?
  • How do they keep us on the path of Jesus?

Make Life Count:

  • Practice meditating on today’s verse by repeatedly reading it out loud and each time emphasize a different word: / ALL Scripture is God-breathed and

…/ All SCRIPTURE is God-breathed…/ All Scripture IS God-breathed…/etc
