3 Critical factors to Consider for effectiveness as intercessors + Introducing the prayers for community and State in 7 spheres of society in Day 7 of 40 – Prayer and Fasting for Church ( You and I) and Leadership Thursdays, 23rd of March 2023 – 23/03/2023
Are you in the Intercessory ministry, or you perceive God has called into the Intercessory ministry but you have not made a commitment to be involved? Or you are a Christian who pray for others once in a while thereby fulfilling the scriptural command that says, “Therefore, confess your sins to one another and pray for one another , that you may be healed. The prayer of a righteous person has great power as it is working” (James 5:16, ESV)? You will need these 3 critical factors to consider for effectiveness in the prayer and Intercessory ministry.
1) As you Intercede for others, constantly pray for yourself also.
There is this mindset that intercessors should not pray for themselves and that as the pray for others, God will raise others to pray for them. That is true but that does not give you the license to not pray for yourself.. the Scriptures says, “love others as yourself… Matthew 22:39
Jesus prayed for Himself in the Garden of Gethsemane – Luke 22:39-46, and He also prayed for Himself when He was praying for unity amongst His disciples in John 17:1-5
21st Century King James Version
These words spoke Jesus and lifted up His eyes to Heaven and said, “Father, the hour is come. Glorify Thy Son, that Thy Son also may glorify Thee,
2 as Thou hast given Him power over all flesh, that He should give eternal life to as many as Thou hast given Him.
3 And this is life eternal: that they might know Thee, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom Thou hast sent.
4 I have glorified Thee on the earth; I have finished the work which Thou gavest Me to do.
5 And now, O Father, glorify Thou Me with Thine own Self with the glory which I had with Thee before the world was.
When there is need for deep calling unto deep – Psalm 42:7 nobody can do it for you but you. And Isaiah 66:8b says, “For as soon as Zion travailed, she brought forth her children.”
Nobody else can give birth to a child in your womb except you. They can help you as midwives but the responsibility is yours and yours only to bring forth that dream, vision, that change and that child.
If you are drowning, it will be difficult to help another drowning person. Both of you will go down to the bottom of the water.. the scriptures says my people perish for lack of knowledge – Hosea 4:6.. swim and float on water and you can be in a better position to help a drowning person for effectiveness in the place of intercession.
2) the Need for Discernment
It is critically important to have discernment as in any spiritual endeavor but there is no place this spiritual gift is required like in the Intercessory ministry.
You need to know the Father’s heart concerning the prayer points that are brought to you by people. You need to know the spiritual state of the person that you are interceding for. That will determine the kind of prayer to pray for effectiveness. Some people talk about Jesus, confessed Jesus. They claim to know Jesus from the head but not from the heart. They don’t want to have anything to do with Jesus or for Jesus.
In true sense of the word, the don’t know Jesus from the heart and Jesus does not know them because Jesus looks upon the heart and the devil also knows that they are part of his disciples and not Jesus’s – Read this Acts 19:13-16
Amplified Bible
13 Then some of the traveling Jewish exorcists also attempted to call the name of the Lord Jesus over those who had evil spirits, saying, “I implore you and solemnly command you by the Jesus whom Paul preaches!” 14 Seven sons of one [named] Sceva, a Jewish chief priest, were doing this. 15 But the evil spirit retorted, “I know and recognize and acknowledge Jesus, and I know about Paul, but as for you, who are you?” 16 Then the man, in whom was the evil spirit, leaped on them and subdued [a]all of them and overpowered them, so that they ran out of that house [in terror, stripped] naked and wounded.
Like the sons of sceva, These people come to church every Sunday to respect their dead parent. They could be in church, 20 years, 30 years but no relationship with Jesus. Some are in secret cults or no cult for that matter and some have sworn allegiance to those other gods – the gods of money, wealth, witches and what have you. If they get into trouble, do you think all your proclamation will work? We have to know this by discernment and call them to order… The scriptures in James 5:16 says, if we confess their sins to one another …then the prayer of faith will bring healing. Not the other way round.
Some of this could be deep rooted unforgiveness and bitterness.. you can be sure that that kind of prayer will not move the finger of heaven in their favor one bit..and we turn around and say God does not answer prayer…
Another dimension to this is the fact that intercessors end up being casualties in dealing with a servant of another god by legal rights provided by the person who is sending us prayer request.
In the course of our ministry, we pray for different kinds of people from different parts of the world who visit our website for solutions to their problems. We have had cases where the spirit behind them come to warn us to hands off and some attack us back for interfering in their subject’s affairs because these people have given legal rights to the spirit pursuing them, sometimes knowingly and sometimes unknowingly. We continue to learn bitter lessons and adapt as we go along.
You and I must develop our spiritual sensitivity in real time to respond accordingly.
We have been to a lot of churches and there are more casualties in churches where spiritual gifts are not developed, encouraged or deployed. If they were necessary in Jesus day, they are more necessary now that we heading fast to the end of this age and I tell you, today their are half humans and half spiritual demonic entities in some of our gatherings. We must develop our spiritual acumen FAST!
3) The need to grow in exercising power and authority.
We see this in a lot of Orthodox churches where, to display false humility, we ask God to come do for us what He has already given us authority to superintendent on His behalf. God come and heal xyz … God this and God that. Meanwhile, God is waiting for us to do His bidding here on earth by exercising His authority and His power to change circumstances and situation here on earth. Mark 16: 18-21 clearly outlines the handover of this supreme power and authority to us christians..every christian that is willing, by faith to exercise this power and authority on God’s behalf needs to be identify, developed and deployed.
How do we grow in it? By trying it out in season and out of season and then our faith grows for bigger things. How can we raise the dead if we can’t even deal with a common cold?
Spiritual gifts are identified, trained by the five fold ministry gifts in the body of Christ and needs to be developed through constant use on the mission field of life
Why do we need them in this day and age? As I mentioned in the need for discernment in 2 above, I will like to expound further below to help you to take action TODAY
When we make an open and honest appraisal of what the Bible teaches on Spiritual Gifts, we see that there are wonderful benefits to be had.
They are given so that we might be edified (built up), exhorted (inspired) and comforted (solaced) (1 Corinthians 14:3). They are given “ that all may learn and all may be encouraged” (1 Corinthians 14:31).
Every person needs to be the recipient of the gifts and their benefits.
There is a spiritual dimension that we cannot receive any other way. When we are not functioning and exercising Spiritual Gifts we are actually “robbing” others of these needy benefits. No wonder the Bible tells us to desire them earnestly (1 Corinthians 12:31; 1 Corinthians 14:1, 39), to stir them up (2 Timothy 1:6), to so love people that we want to do the utmost good to them, that the gifts will operate in and through us to encourage others.
Spiritual Gifts functioning encourage us to press in to God and enable us to know His “now” word for us, especially the people we Intercede for. It is not surprising, therefore, that we are told that “all may prophesy” (1 Corinthians 14:31); that we are “not to despise prophecies” (1 Thessalonians 5:19), but rather to “take heed to the prophetic words spoken over our lives” (1 Timothy 1:18-20).
Through prophetic words spoken over our lives we are able to fight a much better warfare against the tactics of the enemy against us; we are able to hold on to faith more definitely, because we know more clearly the word and will of God for us personally; and we also are able to have a clean, pure conscience that enables us to obey the voice of the Lord when it comes to us. Without a clear conscience, whenever God speaks, the enemy comes and pricks our conscience and accuses us of things we have done wrongly, etc., and that has the effect of stopping us from being obedient (because we have a guilty conscience).
Spiritual Gifts in operation are God’s idea. They are not something that man has dreamed up. They are a vital part of New Testament Christianity. We neglect them to our loss.
Introducing the prayers for community and State in 7 spheres of social
From Tomorrow for seven days, we will be praying for our Communities and the state were we dwell in using these 7 spheres of society and will be used as model of prayer as we pray for our nation and the Nations of the world viewing these from enthronement of God’s kingdom, Gods sovereignty coming to manifest in these realms as in heaven so on earth as we declare unity and love.
What are the “seven spheres of society”?
The ever more widely used phrase “seven spheres of society” (sometimes referred to as the “seven spheres of influence”) are the various dimensions of life that come together to make up society as we know it.
The terminology originated within the religious sphere (the church) and has become more widely used as organisations in the non-religious sphere (particularly the economics one) went seeking for new terminologies outside of their own to help frame discussion about social impact and issues.
Each sphere sees itself as having a unique purpose and set of characteristics that set it apart. They are a set of definitions that represent a purist perspective from those within that sphere. Not everyone will agree with these definitions. But the general concept is gaining traction as the conversation around reforming society seeks a simple way to look at the complexity of social issues.
Nobody sits within a single sphere: everyone is a mix of many of them. But most people tend to be devoted to some more than others.
NOTE
The definitions are akin to a vision of greatness for each sphere, self-defined by each sphere. With each one carrying the capacity to be both fulfilled for good or corrupted.
Government
Where justice and peace are safeguarded and authority is used to serve a set of citizens.
Economics (Science, Technology & Business)
Where provision is created, and stewardship is modelled. Science and technology form part of its creative force, with enterprise being the distributor of ideas and resources.
Faith, Spirituality & Belief
Engagement with the immaterial, spiritual realm, extension of mercy and the promotion of reconciled relationships; person-to-person and person-to-God.
Education
The equipping of people for their life purpose through personal transformation and the multiplication of knowledge.
Family
Where life is multiplied, belonging is found and individual identity is first established.
Media
The transfer of wisdom and the promotion of healthy relationships through forms of communication that are life-giving.
Celebration (Arts, Entertainment and Sports)
The strengthening of hope and the building of community through holistic presentations of life that engage the whole person.
This brings us to the end of this short exhortation on Day 7 of 40 – Prayer and Fasting for Church ( You and I) and Leadership Thursdays, 23rd of March 2023 – 23/03/2023
