33 They answered, “We are not stoning you because of any good thing you did. We are stoning you because you did a terrible thing. You are just a man, and here you are claiming to be God!”
34 Jesus replied:
In your Scriptures doesn’t God say, “You are gods”? 35 You can’t argue with the Scriptures, and God spoke to those people and called them gods. 36 So why do you accuse me of a terrible sin for saying that I am the Son of God? After all, it is the Father who prepared me for this work. He is also the one who sent me into the world. 37 If I don’t do as my Father does, you should not believe me. 38 But if I do what my Father does, you should believe because of that, even if you don’t have faith in me. Please Do Something, God!
82 When all of the other gods[a]
have come together,
the Lord God judges them
and says:
2 “How long will you
keep judging unfairly
and favoring evil people?
3 Be fair to the poor
and to orphans.
Defend the helpless
and everyone in need.
4 Rescue the weak and homeless
from the powerful hands
of heartless people.
5 “None of you know
or understand a thing.
You live in darkness,
while the foundations
of the earth tremble.[b]
6 “I, the Most High God, say
that all of you are gods[c]
and also my own children.
7 But you will die,
just like everyone else,
including powerful rulers.”
8 Do something, God!
Judge the nations of the earth;
they belong to you.
For meditation:
- Do you assume Jesus was joking when He told them that they scripture says, “you and I are gods?”
2) What then is stopping you and I from acting as god’s ?
3) Why are you and i asking Him to come do the work He Himself have given us the power of attorney to act on His behalf here on earth?
4) Why are we reluctant to step into our divine mandate?
5) What do we change in our thinking to facilitate this mindshift so that that we can superintendent on His behalf more effectively in words and deeds?
