Day 23 of 40 Day Discipleship Walk with Jesus Christ: Examine yourself

2 Corinthians 13:5

Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?

Short Story on Examining MYSELF

Day 23 of 40 Day Discipleship Walk with Jesus Christ: Examine yourself
As I sat in front of the mirror, staring at my reflection, I couldn’t help but feel a sense of unease. The words of the apostle Paul echoed in my mind, “Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you—unless, of course, you fail the test?” (2 Corinthians 13:5).

I had always considered myself to be a devout Christian, but as I looked deeper into my own heart, I began to question whether I truly had a genuine faith. I thought about all the times I had prayed, attended church, and read the Bible, but I couldn’t shake the feeling that there was something missing.

I started to examine my own life, looking for evidence of my faith. I thought about the times I had served others, the times I had shared my faith with others, and the times I had felt closest to God. But as I looked closer, I realized that there were also times when I had been selfish, prideful, and disobedient.

I realized that my faith was not as strong as I thought it was. I had been relying on my own efforts and good works, rather than on the grace of God. I had been trying to earn my own salvation, rather than accepting the free gift of grace that God offered.

As I continued to examine myself, I felt a sense of conviction and repentance. I realized that I needed to turn away from my own sinful desires and trust fully in God’s grace. I needed to let go of my own pride and self-righteousness, and instead cling to the cross of Christ.

As I looked back at my reflection, I saw a different person staring back at me. I saw a person who was broken, humbled, and fully dependent on God. I saw a person who was no longer trying to earn their own salvation, but rather, a person who was trusting fully in the grace of God.

I realized that the examination of myself had not only revealed my own sinfulness, but it had also revealed the depth of God’s love and grace for me. I was not just a good person, but a sinner who was fully forgiven and loved by God.

As I walked away from the mirror, I felt a sense of peace and joy that I had never felt before. I knew that I was not perfect, but I also knew that I was fully loved and accepted by God. I knew that I would continue to struggle with my own sinful desires, but I also knew that I had a faithful God who would guide and strengthen me on my journey.

Check your progress on how you have been going so far. It can be helpful to know how frequently you are engaging the Scriptures. Try varying the time, frequency and Scripture passages and observe what happens. (Remember for Divine truth)

The questions to develop Nurturing relationships are:

  • How have you perceived the presence of God this week?
  • How have you responded?
  • What risks have you taken by faith?
  • What are you learning?
  • How can we be of help?

Try using these questions with someone this week. (Remember for Nurturing relationships.)

Have you been praying daily for labourers? The alarm on the cellphone reminds you to pause for a few seconds and to ask God for labourers. Have you noticed anything happening because you are praying what Jesus indicated?

(Remember for Advancing the mission)

We would love to hear from you what is happening . (Reply via email: ambassador@otakada.org)

For Reflection:

  • What does the DNA. of discipleship stand for?
  • Is this a helpful pattern to use?

Make Life Count:

  • Sit in silence for a few minutes and ask Jesus to examine your heart concerning learning from His Scriptures, the relationships that nurture you and your prayer for labourers for the harvest. What do you sense him saying?

Shalom!
