20 I am not praying just for these followers. I am also praying for everyone else who will have faith because of what my followers will say about me. 21 I want all of them to be one with each other, just as I am one with you and you are one with me. I also want them to be one with us. Then the people of this world will believe that you sent me.
22 I have honored my followers in the same way you honored me, in order that they may be one with each other, just as we are one. 23 I am one with them, and you are one with me, so they may become completely one. Then this world’s people will know that you sent me. They will know that you love my followers as much as you love me.
Proverbs 16: 18 Too much pride will destroy you.
But He gives more grace. Therefore He says: “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
1 Peter 5:5
5 Likewise you younger people, submit yourselves to your elders. Yes, all of you be submissive to one another, and be clothed with humility, for “God resists the proud, But gives grace to the humble.”
3 endeavoring to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace.
4 There is one body and one Spirit, just as you were called in one hope of your calling;
5 one Lord, one faith, one baptism;6 one God and Father of all, who is above all, and through all, and in you all.11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets, some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ,13 till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;
14 that we should no longer be children, tossed to and fro and carried about with every wind of doctrine, by the trickery of men, in the cunning craftiness of deceitful plotting,
15 but, speaking the truth in love, may grow up in all things into Him who is the head—Christ—
16 from whom the whole body, joined and knit together by what every joint supplies, according to the effective working by which every part does its share, causes growth of the body for the edifying of itself in love.
2 Timothy 2:23-26
23 But avoid foolish and ignorant disputes, knowing that they generate strife.
24 And a servant of the Lord must not quarrel but be gentle to all, able to teach, patient,
25 in humility correcting those who are in opposition, if God perhaps will grant them repentance, so that they may know the truth,
26 and that they may come to their senses and escape the snare of the devil, having been taken captive by him to do his will.
Dear brethren, thank God for another week exploring the topic of intercession in the great exchange for service. This week, we are looking at the nexus between intercession and unity in ten (10) series. The first series is on the issue of pride and disunity and how this undermines our intercessory effort and subsequently, our exchange for service in the vineyard.
After careful observation and much prayer, we have drawn the conclusion that at the heart of disunity in the body of Christ is deep rooted pride. Being prideful means having or showing an arrogant superiority to and disdain of those one views as unworthy. Pride can only be found where there is no love. Where there is no love, there is no God because God is love. Our love for God is the root while our love for the brethren is the fruit. Jesus says, Christian will be known by the fruit of love they manifest. The world we know us by the love we have for one another.
It is amazing that we have failed to learn from the attack going on upon the church worldwide that united we stand and divided we will certainly fall and fail. To date, christians and indeed Christian organizations still carry on as lone Rangers right in the middle of the battlefield. We act like soldiers without commander in chief because we have no chain of commander and even when they are available, we trust no one to work with. It is either you are part of my denomination or I don’t fight with you. We have made ourselves willing prey for the enemy because of deep rooted pride and affinity to organization that has no registration or recognition in scheme of heaven.
God does not see denominations neither does He see mission organization. God sees people who make up a United body of Christ. Until we see ourselves first as Christians before we are members of local Assemblies, we will continue to make ourselves willing prey before the enemy. As long as we believe our local assemblies are better than others and having all that it takes, we will continue to undermine the effectiveness of our intercessory and intervention efforts in our day and age.
God will not support disobedience. God will not give grace but will resist the proud. Come let us humble ourselves today, return to the place of unity of the spirit where grace is guaranteed so we can find help in time of need.
Prayer: Dear Lord God, we ask for your visitation to our various gathering, to our prayer closet in the secret place, speak from and to our hearts this day, put your burden for unity of spirit upon your church that we will willingly reach out to one another in love and draw resources – spiritual, human and material to meet the challenges of persecution in our midst and more importantly, that we will confront the enemy at the gates before the manifest in the physical realm as we march on, as a mighty army to fulfill the mandate of making disciples of all nations. Give us no peace until we do the needful in Jesus name, amen
